I Remember – Veteran’s Affairs Canada

Posted October 31, 2012

Veteran’s Affairs Canada has all the information you need to plan or participate in a Remembrance Day activity with your students.

As a lead-up to Remembrance Day, teachers will find content, lessons, guides and videos in the Teacher’s Resources section. A number of lessons cover specific battles from the South African War, First World War, Second World War, and Korean War, with additional modules focusing on Aboriginal and women’s perspectives.

Teachers can also download a special edition of Canada Remembers Times, which includes stories about all of Canada’s past war efforts in a newspaper format. Younger students can read through the Tales of Animals in War newspaper, designed for grades K-6. Each year since 2006, the newspaper has followed six animal characters, as they explore themes of remembrance. Both newspapers come with a Teachers’ Guide.

Finally, you’ll find lots of ideas for remembrance activities throughout the month of November. You can find a ceremony in your community with the calendar of events, send an e-card to a family member or soldier, or share your own Remembrance Day activities through social media and maybe win a prize through the Remembrance Challenge.

There are lots of ways to remember. Visit Veterans.gc.ca to learn more.
