  July 17, 2023 — Canada’s National History Society announced today that Melony Ward has been appointed new President & CEO of the organization. A leader in the arts and heritage sectors, Ward has worked with some of Canada’s leading cultural platforms, focusing on excellence in content presentation, building audiences, and developing revenues. Canada’s History writer Miles Morrisseau has received a National Magazine Award nomination for his story “A National Crime.”

• Canada’s History Society Announces 2023 Recipients of the John Bragg Award for Atlantic Canada​
  April 11, 2023 — An immigrant photographer who championed wetlands conservation in Nova Scotia. A Jesuit priest who made it his earthly mission to support struggling farmers in P.E.I. And an Acadian architect whose vision helped to shape his community in New Brunswick. The stories of these three innovators will be celebrated and shared thanks to the John Bragg Award for Atlantic Canada.

  November 23, 2020 — They are the storytellers of history — enthralling and engaging Canadians everywhere as they explore our country’s past. From teachers, authors, and scholars to curators, community volunteers, and more, these history champions bring context and clarity to the past, and inspire us all to learn more about Canada and its many peoples.

  September 21, 2020 — One hundred years of history. A century of storytelling. In October 2020, Canada’s History-The Beaver magazine will mark its 100th year of publication with a special collector’s issue showcasing a century’s worth of stories and photographs from the magazine’s vast archival collection. At the same time, the special issue will examine The Beaver’s complicated legacy of colonialism when it comes to its historical portrayal of Indigenous peoples.
• Despite COVID-19, young students participate in national program to showcase important Canadian histories
  June 15, 2020 — When the COVID-19 pandemic swept Canada this spring, students were forced to deal with sudden closures and cancellations as everything from classes and concerts to school trips and sporting events were shut down. For thousands of students, this also meant missing out on their annual heritage fair — a public exhibition of student research projects about Canadian history.

  January 13, 2020 — Cultural organizations, teachers, students, and community groups will be honoured for their exceptional work in promoting the exploration of Canada’s history. The prestigious Governor General’s History Awards — recognizing the excellence of innovative projects and encouraging the dissemination and teaching of Canadian history — will be presented at Rideau Hall on January 20, 2020. Her Excellency the Right Honourable Julie Payette, Governor General of Canada, will preside over the award ceremony that honours the winners from across the country.

  June 13, 2019 — The discovery of insulin. The inspiring journey of Roberta Bondar. The first female doctors in Canada. The evolution of the postage stamp. Immigration over time. The importance of Truth and Reconciliation. The legacy left by artist Emily Carr. These are just a few of the topics explored by students taking part in the 2019 Young Citizens program — a national contest that sees young Canadians create engaging and inspiring history videos, while vying for a trip to Ottawa to attend the Canada’s History Forum.

  June 12, 2018 —The Spanish flu epidemic. The first French-Canadian woman to become a doctor. The history of treaties in Canada. Immigration stories and experiences, from the Vietnamese “boat people” to Syrian refugees. Tales of courage and liberation from the Second World War. These are just a few of the topics explored by students taking part in the 2018 Young Citizens program — a national contest that sees young Canadians create engaging and inspiring history videos, while vying for a trip to Ottawa to attend the Canada’s History Forum.

  November 8, 2017 — Cultural organizations, teachers, students, and community groups will be honoured for their exemplary work in promoting the exploration of Canada’s history. The prestigious Governor General’s History Awards—recognizing the excellence of innovative projects and encouraging the dissemination and learning of the history of Canada among its citizens—will be presented at Rideau Hall on November 22, 2017.   November 22, 2016 — Canada’s top historians, educators and community leaders will gather in Ottawa on November 27 to focus on engaging Canadians in the histories of Indigenous peoples.

  November 17, 2016 — Who are the greatest hockey players in NHL history? Wayne “The Great One” Gretzky? Maurice “Rocket” Richard? Gordie “Mr. Hockey” Howe? To celebrate the centennial year of the NHL, Canada’s History magazine is inviting hockey fans to go online and vote for the greatest players ever.
