War of 1812: The March of the 104th Regiment of Foot

The calendar year has turned over but the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812 continues in 2013. One of the signature events of the War of 1812 Bicentennial is starting this week in New Brunswick. In early 1813 the New Brunswick 104th Regiment of Foot marched more than 1100 kilometers from Fredricton to Kingston in Ontario.

Molly Demma, the Executive Director of the St. John River Society took some time to speak with Canada's History about the event and the history that surrounds the event. The event is being commemorated through a series of events that start February 16th, in Fredericton and then follow the path of the soldiers.

The St. John River Society has also created a series of educational trunks for teachers that including everything from musket balls to primary documents related to the War of 1812. They can contact the society for more information about receiving one of the trunks.
