Resurgence and Reconciliation

A selection of new and recent Canadian Indigenous-history books.

Compiled by Canada’s History

Posted February 20, 2020

In recent years, as Indigenous peoples and Canadians in general have been attempting to better understand their histories and relationships, dozens of new books have been published that explore aspects of the histories, stories, and experiences of First Nations, the Inuit, and the Métis people.

The books listed here were written and illustrated by historians, artists, and storytellers from around the country. Together they show some of the diversity of Indigenous experiences, as well as of approaches to reconciliation and Indigenous resurgence, while offering some of the lessons from people and the land that are available to all Canadians.

The list also includes a link to the articles from our special Treaties and the Treaty Relationship edition, which can be read online.
