Historic Church Restoration

The Comité des ami.e.s de la prière inc. needed your help restoring their historic church and you came to the rescue!

Posted March 16, 2010

Who we are:

The Comité des ami.e.s de la prière inc. is a community group that has taken on the task of restoring and maintaining the Enfant-Jésus Municipal Heritage Site in Richer, MB. The committee is formed of a 10 member board, actively supported by a group of volunteers from the community and surrounding area. The Committee promotes community, cultural, social and spiritual development opportunities for the residents of Richer & area all the while keeping in the forefront the French and Métis cultures and Heritage.

Our Community Project:

At the moment, we are entering phase III of roof repairs to the Heritage Enfant-Jésus Church situated on the historic Dawson Trail. This phase encompasses the stripping of old shingles from the main roof, repairing the deck, and installing new cedar shingles, metal soffits, fascia, eaves troughs and down pipes. Quoted cost for this repair is $83,212.50.

Why we need your help right now:

The Museum currently lacks a proper indoor programming space that is usable during colder months of the year. With rising costs of transportation and a limited budget for teachers, the museum is seeing fewer school groups each year.

Why this project matters to our community:

The Enfant-Jésus Heritage Site is a landmark in the community and on the Dawson Trail. The church building serves as an occasional meeting place for special events throughout the year and as an important summer venue for tourism in the area, The Dawson Trail being the first permanent roadway in western Canada.

How you can help:

As we rely entirely on fund-raising, donations, and grants for the restoration projects, we need help with the gathering of funds that can be used as amounts toward matching grants. All donations are used entirely for renovation projects.

You did it! The Enfant-Jésus Heritage Site has since been repaired and is an educational historic site for students and interested Canadians with seasonal opening. Be sure to check its website for details.
