90+ Years of History in Your Pocket

For decades, The Beaver magazine offered a window on a world rarely seen by most Canadians — the Far North.

Sharing stories of the fur-trade era to modern times, The Beaver was a rich national resource for researchers and history lovers alike.

Now — in time for Canada’s 150th anniversary — The Beaver’s entire catalogue of back issues is being made available online — for free — via a new mobile-responsive Archive.

Canada’s History Archive featuring The Beaver allows users to browse stories about the people and places of the North, as well as the history of Canada from coast to coast to coast. The search functionality will launch in the fall.

“Canada’s History Archive featuring The Beaver offers Canadians the opportunity to explore an important part of their country’s history,” said Janet Walker, President & CEO of Canada’s History Society.

In addition to The Beaver, the archive will feature issues of Canada’s History magazine as well as Kayak: Canada’s History Magazine for Kids. This sesquicentennial project was made possible thanks to a generous contribution from the Hudson’s Bay Company History Foundation.

From Inuit culture and art, to tales from the trap lines of the Hudson's Bay Company, the Archive contains a wealth of information for educators, archivists, historians and history enthusiasts.
