Musée de la Gaspésie
Gaspé (Quebec)
With its collaborative exhibition What a Heritage! the Musée de la Gaspésie has worked with families on the Gaspé peninsula to assemble and exhibit their greatest historical treasures in the region's fifteen libraries.
Several local and national media outlets have praised the project and, and as a result, this initiative has reached an audience of over 30,000 people — an extraordinary achievement for a project of this size.
By acting as a professional intermediary between citizens who, on the one hand, wish to showcase their physical heritage and family stories and, on the other hand, those who are curious to discover the history of their own people, the Musée de la Gaspésie was able to cohesively present an eclectic collection of objects and stories.
Therefore, the Musée de la Gaspésie's overarching success story is that it was not only able to bring the history to the people, but to bring people to the history.
