Michel Marcotte
École primaire Primadel, á Saint-Adelphe, Grand-Mère (Quebec)
Michel Marcotte's students have undertaken a creative process to produce an original film exploring such topics as the relationship between New France and England. The film takes a closer look at Canada's history, specifically the laws, events, wars and key figures that led to the creation of modern-day Quebec.
The students are involved in every aspect of the film, from conducting research to writing the script, building props to learning lines and taking on characters in this original production; the students also edit the film using computers. The film will then be premiered in their school before being made available to the wider community, which will serve as a fundraising activity for the end of-year trip.
This initiative employs a number of teaching and learning approaches. It is a co-operative endeavour that incorporates advanced research techniques and encourages students to take an active role in presenting their history creatively.
