Paul Gifford
Sedbergh High School, Montebello (Quebec)
Paul Gifford, a Senior 10 educator was nominated for an original integrated experiential program called The Wilderness Integrated Course. The program integrates two–thirds of the grade 10 curriculum, including Canadian History and Geography, Language Arts, Visual Arts, Life Skills, Outdoor Education and Media Studies. Curriculum is organized by Canadian historical theme (The Sea, The Forest, The North, The River), and the heart of each theme unit is a historical re–enactment — a hands–on project (like the building of a log cabin) and a wilderness expedition (like a 4–day snowshoeing trip). In this program, students experience Canadian history as an unforgettable adventure.
Canada’s History Society is able to present the Governor General’s History Award for Excellence in Teaching.
Nominations for the Governor General's History Award for Excellence in Teaching are accepted all year round.
